*Why Should I Participate In The NOLA Urban Theatre Festival?

The NOLA Urban Theatre Festival Will Bring Playwrights, Directors, Producers, & Actors From Nationwide Under One Roof To Share Their Work With Audience Members They May Not Have Had A Chance To Reach. No Matter Where You Are In Your Career As A Playwright Or Producer It's A Place Where Veterans & Upcoming Playwrights Have An Opportunity To Showcase Their Production & Support One Another. There's Networking & Collaboration Opportunities As Well Informative Material & Teachings That Will Help Take Careers To Another Level. 

 

*What Are The Plays Being Judge On & How Are Participants Selected?

Participants Will Be Selected Based Upon The Play's Storyline, Character Development, Dialogue, & Overall Structure (Which Can Include Stage Direction)

 

*Do I Have To Pay To Produced My Play? If So, What Does The Money Go Towards?

Plays Are Self-Produced. All Participants Who Are Accepted Into The Play Festival Will Have To Pay A Fee To Produce Their Play. The Fee Covers Rental Fees, Tech Services (up to 90 minutes for a 1 day rehearsal and day of performence, if you need additional time an additional fee will be charged), Ushers, Stage Crew, Venue Manager, Your Production Information On A WebPage, Marketing, Promoting, & Advertising For Your Production, Your Production Information In The Festival's Program Booklet, Set Up & Clean Up After Performance, Use Of Set Material; If Available, Up To Date Announcements As Things Progress Within The Festival, Box Office & Ticket Assistance, Required Liability Insurance.  

 

FYI: Please Note That Participants Should Set Aside Money For Travel Arrangements, Room & Board, Marketing Material, & Other Neccessary Requirements. All Playwrights Are To Submit A Flyer, With The NOLA Urban Theatre Festival Logo On It, For Your Production So That it Maybe Added To The Website.

 

*How Much Is It For Participants To Produce Their Stage Play?

For The Black Box Theater The Cost To Produce Is: $495

For The Main Stage Area The Cost To Produce Is: $795

 

*Who Receives The Money From Ticket Sales?

100% Of The Proceeds Minus a Credit Card Processing Fee From Tickets Sales Belongs To The Producer. The Festival Will Add Taxes & Processing Fees To Each Ticket Price. However, These Fees Are Paid By The Patron. 

 

FYI: We Advise Keeping The Cost Reasonable To Attract More Patrons & Increase Ticket Sales; $15-$25 (Capping The Price At $25 Particularly With A Production That Has A Celebrity Headliner)

 

*How Is It Determined Which Plays Goes To Which Area

Area 1, Which Is Deemed Main Stage: Seats 240-250 Theater Style

Area 2, Which Is Deemed The Black Box: Seats 150

 

*Is The Festival Only Accepting Material From African American Playwrights And/Or Producers?

While Yes We Are Celebrating Black Theatre We Are Also Celebrating Playwrights & What They Do. We Look At The Heart & Soul Of  The Play, The Diversity It Shows, & How Creatively The Material Is Written. All Plays Are Treated Equally No Matter What The Race Of The Playwright Is.

 

*When Will I Know When My Play Is Accepted?

Producers Whose Play Have Been Accepted Should Receive An Email Notification Within One (1) to Two (2) Weeks After The Submission Deadline Which Is January 26, 2014. 

 

FYI: We Will Not Offer Any Comments Or Critiques About Any Play That Has Been Submitted.

 

*When Is The Money Due?

For Playwrights, Once Accepted & Participation Is Confirmed A Deposit Of $150 Is Due For The Black Box & $225 For The Main Stage Area.  A Signed Participant Agreement & Payment Must Be Made Within 10 Business Days. If Payment & Agreement Is Not Made We Maintain The Right To Offer Your Spot To Another Playwright Or Producer. All Monies Are Non-Refundable. Once The Deposit Has Been Made We Will Discuss A Payment Plan For the Remaining Balance. 

 

*Information Regarding Monologue/Spoken Word Competition

For The Monologue/Spoken Word Competition Once Acceptance & Participation Is Confirmed There Is A $20 Fee That Must Be Paid (This Will Cover Cost Into The Mixer on June 12th;

Where The Competition Will Take Place & Set Up). The Payment Is Due Within 5 Business Days From The Date The Contestant Is Informed Of His Or Her Acceptance. After The Payment Is Received A Picture & Title Of Participant's Piece Will Be Listed On The Website. If Payment Is Not Made We Maintain The Right To Offer Your Spot To Someone Else. All Monies Are Non-Refundable. The Winner Of The Competition Is Determined By Attendees. The Winner Will Receive A Winning Title, Cash & Prize, & As Well As The Opportunity To Share Their Piece During The Intermission Time At 2 Stage Plays.
